How To

How to capture pictures under low lighting conditions

Low-light photography is the art of taking photographs in dark or dimly lit environments. It requires special equipment. The main challenges in this field include controlling exposure, whitebalance, and sharpness. There are two types low-light photography: ambient and flash. Flash photography works well when there is sufficient light around you. However, if there's not enough natural light around you, you'll need to use flash. For example, if your subject is indoors but outside, there might not be enough light to capture a good picture without a flash. Try shooting at night, during the moonlit hours, if you don't need a flash. This will allow you to get nice shadows and colors. Another option is shooting at twilight. Twilight is when the sun sets but there's still daylight.

You may also want to experiment with long exposures. Long exposures let you capture images even after the shutter has been open several minutes. The camera records only light falling on the sensor if it is kept closed. This light falls onto the sensor even after a long exposure. However, because the shutter remained shut, no new light enters the lens. As a result, you see very little movement. To ensure clear images, disable any autofocus and exposure settings. Before you begin shooting, adjust your ISO setting. An ISO setting of 200 gives you more flexibility to control how bright or dark your image looks. Once you are ready to click the shutter button, make sure it is fast. This will cause the shutter to close completely. Next, hold the shutter button down until the end. You will prevent additional light from entering your camera by keeping the shutter button down. Once you have taken the image, wait for a few seconds before you release it. This allows the camera to process the image. While waiting, you can check out your photos on your computer screen. Once you are satisfied with the photos, save them onto your computer.
